Will java and xmas moss take in ammonia/other toxins the same?

I want to get some java moss for my tank in order to help remove ammonia and other toxins from the water in between water changes, but my LFS only has xmas moss. Will the two mosses do the same thing in the tank, or is only java moss good for this purpose? If xmas moss doesn't do the same thing I'd go ahead and order the java moss online.

from what i read, xmas grows fuller and looks better. java moss will eventually attach itself to a surface. both are great
