As a general rule, Percentage of fresh water replacement changes multiple times a week is the key to preventative maintenance. In other words, try not to take the attitude of, "It's okay to blow off replacing the water this week cause Little Simon looks fine". Before you know it 1 week turns into 2 and soon after your betta may no longer look so hot.
