Its just not working!

Three weeks ago I bought a gravel vacuum. I have tried to use it with EVERY water change to clean it, but it just doesn't work! At first I thought it was because my tank wasn't high enough from the bucket, so i elevated my tank on a stand and tried again. Maybe my vacuum is like broken? I dont know, i can't get a constant suction. So every time i go to clean the tank or gravel vac ive been doing the stir and suction method thing. Suggestions?

It's not broken, but I have to suck on the end of the siphon tube to get mine going. It sounds gross, but as long as you stick it in the bucket before the water gets to the end, nothing gets in your mouth. It's the only way I can get mine going.

I tried that too!! I bought one of the 'no sucking required' ones but its just dumb! haha I'll get a suction but then it will stop..

You might have to suck for longer. I watch the tube until I see the water streaming down. You may not be sucking hard enough (BTW, this sounds SO wrong. LOL).

There could be a leak where air is getting in.

Heres what I do:

Put the siphon into the water (have the other end already in a bucket - you wont need to suck) and fill it with water.
Put the siphon back into the water before the water fully drains from the tube. Hold the now-underwater siphon sideways so the air flows out of it.
Quickly then, put it into the gravel once the airs almost all out and you should be good!

It's hard to explain.... I should make a video sometime xD Sorry if I made no sense!

I submerge the whole tube in the tank til it fills. I then lift the open end side above the surface to allow gravity to push the water down the tube. Before the end tube empty's out I submerge it again....vacuum flow starts soon after.

Never had to kiss suck smooch the end of the tube to get it going, N A S T Y !
