Another Fish!

Ok, so I have 1 betta right now. He's a male and his name is Tinsel :)
Although my mom really only wants me to have 1, she agreed that I could buy another betta because I was doing so well in school! :D

That said, I've decided to get a female! I was wondering if you guys had any tips on picking out a healthy female? I'm hoping to get a pretty one that is fairly small. The smaller they are the younger, correct? Also, is the care for males and females basically the same? Like will I have to do anything special for her?

Thanks in advance :) I'm going to my LFS tomorrow and hopefully they will have the betta i want and the supplies I need in stock!

Here is what I know from picking females, looking for the tiny girls, looking at how vibrent she is or isn't, check out her colors and finnage (This helps health wise), look at her body, make sure its all slender no bumps or anything. Oh, and make sure her eyes are normal size, other wise she has popeye. And make sure when you pick up her cup that she is reacting as a startled fish, not one that has been woken from her rest. Its basicly the same as picking a male :3.

Also, no special care. Same basics.

And this sounds so noobish, but what is LFS D : ?

Make sure when you get a female that she has no stress stripes. Both of the females I've gotten with stress stripes never fully got rid of them. But the one I got that didn't have the stress stripes never got them at all. Also, make sure their coloring is vibrant, make sure they're feisty and active, and make sure they aren't clamping their fins. Then, of course, make sure they have no signs of ich, velvet, or fungus. No raised scales, and no SBD issues.

That's great. I'll definitely pick out a fish that calls to me :) My LFS's quality is alright. I saw a dead betta once but the rest looked fine.
