i try to avoid any cichlid. xD they get too big, and are too aggressive for my tastes. i'll keep my small, aggressive bettas. o3o Angels are the only ones i like. ._.

we had an angel when i was a kid. it killed the other angels, and got so big and aggressive, we had to move him to another tank. the only tank we had free, was a 10 gallon, and he was almost as tall as it was. .___. he had swimming room, but not as much as we'd have liked him to have.

well, i just got home from work, picked up some baboo stalks on my way to put in their bowls, and well, it seems the dark fin edges that were on Ariadne are gone/almost gone ?
I can barely see them anymore.. lol
All 3 are much more active than they were last night too

And..
I just saw Ariadne flare....
I am started to suspect she may actually be a Plakat male... she is just huge compared to the other two, and the flaring.. well.. do females do that?
It's like she can sense Lilith on the other side of her, lol, even though I have some paper in between their bowls..

I guess we will seeeee in time!

Op, Lilith just flared too, I guess girls can do that then? lol

females DO flare. :d best way to check, imo, is to shine a flashlight through her, to look for an egg sac. xD since so many pet stores mistaken male plakats for female bettas, and i don't know all the other ways to tell if one is a female.... LOL

oh gosh, i am so glad i started the treatment on all of them, i've been looking closer and closer and noticing more and more.
alot of their fins are chewed up / missing pieces even from their front little flapper things. ariadne seems to have it the worst.
all are missing a few scales as well...
some red areas...

keep in mind this could be from any other creature in that tank that guy had them in before.. aaah.

they are all acting okay fine though.

mraaaaa

Another way, I have read, to tell a male from a female is when the males flare, there is a full beard. When the females flare, there is no bottom "beard" part.
