How often do you perform a water change?weekly

My question is do I start with a complete water change? I did a 20% late last night did not want to wake my son(7) so I did not do more. The tank is right by his bed.
I used a tablespoon of sea salt from the kitchen.

A weekly water change at 20% is too little. Do a 100% change soon and follow by 25-50% every other day and 100% the following week until he gets better. Sea salt and aquarium salt can be drastically different, maybe you want to buy aquarium salt.

I have a 5 gallon with a filter and I do 20% water changes every day, and 50% every week. I have shrimp in my tank so I can't really go for that 100% because of the tiny transparent shrimp babies might be sucked up.

Thank you so much. I did buy aquarium salt today and did a 75% water change. I will do a 100% one today. Agian tank you!

You can have bettas and ottos together, but ottos prefer to be in larger groups and need at least ten gallons.
