Feeding

I've seen a lot of debate over how much to feed bettas. My current DT doesn't yet have a set eating pattern (I fasted him the first two days and gave him one of Top Fin's Color Enhancing Betta Bits a few hours ago), so I'm not exactly sure what's a good amount to give and how often. A bit of help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Think of it this way… a betta's stomach is about as big as its eye. So that would be about 3-4 pellets big. I am not familiar with the betta bits? Are they pellets?

I feed my bettas with hikari micropellets (they are little smaller than betta pellets and all are same size + they don't cloud the water). I give them 2 in the morning 2 at night, one day a week no food and once every few days instead of pellets daphnia or blood worms.

Daphnia are really good for constipation by the way, just in case your betta ever gets stopped up haha.

I also use a micro pellet, and I like it a lot better than "normal" pellets. IMO the betta digests them easier.

Roadrunner, can you tell me the ingredients of the hikari pellets in order? They changed their betta formula and I want to see if they changed the micro pellet formula too. Just interested :)

I think it varies for every betta. If i feed my male, picasso, more than one pellet a day he gets bloated. (But i also use wardley's Betta pellets, never seen someone with those, mine might be bigger........)

Totally agree.
I do not believe in fasting days unless your fish is prone to constipation or is suffering from SBD.
I feed mine everyday, twice a day; more if they are being conditioned.
I give them 3-6 bloodworms plus 2-3 pellets each. Sometimes I'm in too much of a hurry in the morning so I skip the bloodworms.
None of them complain, are all very healthy, are not fat, and regular

3-6 bloodworms + 2-3 pellets each and no fasting day???? as it was mentioned earlier in this thread, fish stomach is size of its eye + pellets usually soak with water and get bigger in their tummy, so that's waaaaaaaay to much food for one fish no matter which way you look at it. Feeding bloodworms everyday is not a good idea (learned that from my own experience and other people confirmed it). Bloodworms should be fed as a treat only. Key is to feed just right balance died.

turtle 10 I will check package when I'll get home.

Freeze dried bloodworms are treats... frozen can be used in regular diet.
