Too Long?

the fry have hatched 2 days ago and they haven't reached the free swimming stage. should i remove the male or leave him their. and is there something wrong?

I thought it takes 3 days for them to free swim.

well they were born on sunday miday so actually its like 3 now

would anything happen if you take the male out a day early?? just wondering??

If you take the male out, any fry that fall from the nest may die on the bottom of the tank. If the male is still tending the nest, leave him in there. Take him out once he can't keep the fry corralled in the nest, or if he starts snacking on them.

Then reward him with a nice meal for being a good daddy.

well right now the male is making bubbles but he fails to catch all the fry. 90% of them are on the floor. what should i do. there are some already swimming around.

If he's not eating them, I'd leave him until most of the fry are swimming. Sounds like the fry are just about there, I think I'd probably remove the male before bedtime this evening if I were you, just to make sure he doesn't decide he wants breakfast tomorrow . Some people like to leave him in longer, but I don't see the point once the fry are out of the nest.

Make sure your temperature is 80+ so the fry will become free swimming.
