From what I can see it looks like he was just getting caught on the plants. Keep an eye on him just in case though! Gorgeous fish, and I love your gecko!

It looks like tail biting to me. Tears tend to cause rips, not big chunks like he has. I know because Sequin tail bites, as well. His always look different if he rips them.

I guess it differs from experience.. When Cameron bit his tail, he took HUGE chunks out of it! I'm so glad he doesn't do it anymore.

Well if it was the plants I fixed that since I have mostly silk plants in there. And if it is tail biting ugh...
Thank you. i love my gecko. It started as a babysit pet, was watching it for someone who went into the military and he decided to just give it to me.

I find it pretty odd that he's tail-biting in such a large, well planted space! Cameron started doing it because he hated his old tank... so I upgraded him and after I put a bunch of decor in there for him to play with, he eventually stopped. Yours could either be just bored, or he might have problems with the weight of his tail. Having such a long tail isn't natural for a betta, so it seems to be a growing problem especially with halfmoons and veiltails with extra long tails.

Anyway... you could try switching up the decor which you've done already, or maybe change his tank size... Otherwise there's really no way you can stop him from doing it. Just keep a close eye on him and be ready to treat it so he doesn't develop fin rot... Maybe you'll catch him red handed! I did that once... it was like a dog chasing it's tail. Best of luck!

Yes they are! I'm thinking she may be a tangerine morph. I've kept other reptiles before so it wasn't to hard to get used to her needs. The only thing I was worried about was the sand. The guy gave it her and the tank to me with the sand. So I have been using sand, but alot of it's covered with slate rocks.

Metalbetta, I try to change the decor every time I do a big water change. For treatment do I just use aquarium salt alot frequent water changes?

If there's any significant fin damage i just add a dose of AQ salt each time I do a water change... If it's REALLY bad, then I'll up water changes in combination with AQ salt. With the kind of damage your guy has right now, it looks like he'd probably be able to heal fine on his own. AQ salt will help it heal faster though.

Alright thanks. I did a water change yesterday and I added the salt to the water that was waiting to be put into the tank.
