Due to an unfortunate heater malfunction that had the tank water pushing the high 80s this morning my fish seems stressed.
I woke up this morning and the tank temp was way too high so i unplugged the heater and added some cold water to the tank to bring the temp down. I checked on it around noon and the temp had dropped to around 80 and my fish was swimming around fine. I came home from work and the temp is at about 78 right now and the fish looks like he's starting to get stress stripes on his body. It looks like two stripes horizontal on his sides but only the back part near his tail fin are looking a little black.
I shut off his light and have decided not to feed him tonight. I was planning on doing a water change to get the temp under control but since he's already stressed enough and the temp is fine now i'm thinking i'll skip it until tomorrow.
Is there anything else i can do?
Also i went to buy a replacement heater for the 'broken' one and when i got it home the wire is only about 2ft long, it won't reach the plug. this will be the 3rd heater i'll be returning to the store.
