Yeah I do think overfeeding is one of the main causes of unintended betta deaths. It sounds like you are doing a great job caring for your new betta!

new update! lots of pale looking regrowth where he had nibbled. This weeks 100% went much better, kept him in his .5? gal original home for the short time, and aside from being annoyed at being so disturbed, he seems to be doing much better.
Such a relief.

so I got home after my final and having lunch out, only to find Scuzi lurking behind his temple, he swims up proud as can be, with his tail in shreds! I'm absolutely beside myself. He had wonderful regrowth and was looking so happy and healthy last night. Could he be a chronic tail biter rather than a stress induced one? I did a 50% change last night, but he didn't start chewing til this morning. I'm just so, ugh...
