quick questions

So, breeders, I have some quick questions that researching hasn't seemed to answer.

1) when you jar your fry, how do you keep your fry jars at a constant 80*F?
2) When you jar your fry, do you keep them in sight of each other constantly, or for say like 1/2 an hour a day to flare?
3) do you/how do you keep track of a fish's genetic history- like a fish family tree?

1) When it's cold, I usually set up a shallow tub with a heater and set the jars in there...Now that it's warmer here in California I have them at room temperature.

2)I card them and let them flare 15-20 minutes everyday.

3)I do and I know because I just ask the breeder of the fish.

Hope this helps. :)

Mine are currently being kept using the shallow bin method. When I have larger numbers of males I keep them at room temp but try to keep the temp as high as I can stand it.

I let mine flare about 15-30 mins a day.... I usually dump them in divided "lee's" betta keepers while I clean their jars so they can flare. I also have floating mirrors I can put in their tank.

I don't actually know the genetic history of my fish past their parents. I don't find the need to know that information currently because I'm not trying to create a line at this point but just perfect my methods in rasing bettas. When I do have space to start my line(s) I will make sure to get as much info from the breeder as I can.

Well, come senior year (I'm almost done with my sophmore year), I plan on breeding for my senior project. I figure it is a fun and different way of approaching this, and I think the judges would like to see a final project they can interact with, like maybe the best two looking males and females from my spawn. :) I really-really-really want to breed sooner, but part of senior project is doing something you don't have too much experience but want to make part of what you do as an adult. :/ Ah well, it'll give me time to find a job and make money so I can afford a good set up, breeding pair, and what not.
