On the Jan 12 2011, Quasimodo was sucked into a filter and his fins shredded, one even being completely torn off. I immediately floated him in a cup and sought advice here. Per OldFishLady's advice, I made up a gallon of water and steeped green tea in it over night so the tannins would leach into the water. I used this gallon of water to change Quasimodo's cup every day for 10 days. Throughout this period, he floated in a cup in a 2.5 gallon tank that contained no decorations and was kept on cooler side of the acceptable temperature spectrum (75-76 degrees)to discourage bacteria growth. He didn't eat the first couple of days but then started eating 2 or 3 pellets a day. After the 10 days, I kept Quasimodo in the half filled 2.5 gallon tank for another month. He had no decorations or gravel to prevent his fins from further damage. Throughout the month, I increased the water in his tank as his swimming and energy improved and put the cup's cap in the tank as a floating shelter and he started making bubble nests in it. He aslo regained his voracious appetite and I could feed him 2 or 3 pellets twice a day. In the later half of the month, I added decorations but still added no gravel. At the end of the month, I put him in his cup and fully set up his 2.5 with no filter, continuing to keep the temperature a little low. About month after this, I set up his new 10G, where he lives today.
