Don't blame yourself about the otos, medication companies are supposed to state if their medication should be used at half dose with scaleless fish. In the past, most medications did, but as of late I've noticed that many medications that *should* be used at half does, fail to disclose that information. Just keep that in mind whenever you are treating a tank with loaches/catfish/snails/crustacean.

Switching to gravel is a good plan. I know people do use sand with bettas, but it really makes tank cleaning more difficult and they just never look clean IMO. Sand also clogs filters (I have lost more good filters that way)...

Since it is a 10 gallon, it is probably easier to do a 50% change (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons). I'm not sure about the 1 tsp/gallon measurement, OldFishLady knows the most about salt measurements so you can PM her if you want :)
