Question Replacing the Light on the Tank

How often should you replace the light over your tank?
Does it make a difference if you have plants or not?
I've heard you shouldn't wait for it to burn out.

It matters more if you keep live plants..... otherwise as long as you can see in the tank you don't need to change the bulb unless you start to see diatoms....

With live plants...depending on the type of bulb used and photoperiod....generally the bulb needs to be changed every 6mo-1yr

In mature tanks without live plants and you start to see diatoms...it could be related to an old light bulb....

Thanks. My tank does have plants so I'll keep that in mind.
