What a jerk!

So, I decided Sam looked a little lonely in his big ol' 10 gal, and bought 2 small ramshorn snails today to put in there. Well, within about 30 seconds, he had bitten off and eaten both of the snails antenna, on each one! I scooped them out as fast as I could and they are with Diablo and his apple snail at the moment (Diablo is really gentle with his tank mates so I think they will be safe). Do snails usually live after loosing their antenna? Should I put them out of their misery?

snails won't die from losing their feelers. Fish eat them off sometimes. THey will grow back. They will either get eaten again, or the snail will learn to pull it's head in when a fish comes by. Some do, some don't learn this trick. They can do just fine without their antenae

have had this happen with goldfish and apple snails.

Got from yahoo answers, so idk, wait and see? :V

But it's probable to heal I'd say.

They'll be fine, and as said above, they'll grow back eventually, and if not, they'll still be able to survive. And I'm guessing Sam will be fine without any tank mates :) Bettas will either ignore or attack their tankmates, it seems Sam is more the attack betta.

For some reason that made me giggle. Poor snails though. No more friends for Sam.

Thanks everybody! I am happy to report that Norman and Nigel are doing great this morning, despite looking a bit bald without their antenna. Sam keeps looking at me so sweet and innocently, wondering why mom took away his new friends. Bully. :)
