New guy not doing so well.

Got my mom a betta from big als on wednesday... everything was fine until i realized yesterday his fins were totally like 'shredding' he was a perfect HM with no frays now all his fins are starting to look more crowntail! He hasn't eaten for me yet and spends most of his time floating on top of a plant in the corner. I started treating him with 1 half tblspoon aqua salt yesterday so im hoping that will help.

What size is your tank? 2.5
What temperature is your tank? 78
Does your tank have a filter? yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? no
Is your tank heated? yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? none.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? betta pellets.. good kind just can't remember the name.
How often do you feed your betta fish? 3pellets in the morning once a day.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? well since he is new since weds he has had one 25% water change yesterday.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 3 25% 1 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? nutrifin 'cycle'

Water Parameters: didn't check.
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Hardness:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? fins fraying, starting to look like CT instead of HM.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms? 2 days after brought him home.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? yes, with aqaua salt.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? no just got him.

How old is your fish (approximately)? hes a baby just new from big als.

Are you sure he's not tail biting? The trying to be a crowntail was what I said when my boy started to bite. Are the ends feathery? Or is there a change in colour?

As Silverfang suggested, it could be biting. How is his colour?

What sort of dosage are you using with the salt? Is he in a quarantine or do you salt the 2.5g?
