is this the beginning of fin rot?

I was looking at some photo's of my betta from last week and noticed he seems to have a little section of his tail fin missing. The same thing is on the tip of his caudal fin.

Sometimes they like to chew on there fins I have 2 bettas that did this. I think they do it when they are stressed or bored. Doesnt look like fin rot. But unless u keep the tank water super clean it could turn into fin rot.

Maybe, I considered it because the missing pieces do have a suspicious size and shape, but he's a king (plakat) and I'm not sure if he could reach his fins...

Maybe it's just part of his coloring? My chocolate VT has some black/ dark brown edging on his tail. :/

his fins are naturally dark, but there's a small section on the lower half of his tail fin that has a little U shape missing form it :(

When in doubt, keep the water super clean to make sure it won't be fin rot. Keep an eye on it and if the missing parts get larger or the black on the edge gets larger, start a salt treatment. By the way, he's absolutely gorgeous. I love how in the pic he has what looks like gold bubbles on his tail.

I have him in quarantine at the moment because of a new fish so he's getting 100% water changes. I'll watch it closely and make sure it isn't showing any signs of becoming something serious. Thanks for the complement, I think he's gorgeous too *love* I wish I could get another HM king but I have absolutely no more room for Bettas, let a lone a large one lol

Thanks for the input

That looks like normal wear and tear to me. I doubt its fin rot. Just keep an eye on it and if it seems to be getting worse then consider upping water changes and adding salt.
