Bubble nests

I've been watching my betta, Apple Pie, work on his bubble nest for a few hours now and I got to wondering: why don't the bubbles pop? Any thoughts? His nest has been around for almost a week and he just keeps adding to it and making it bigger.

are you breeding him?

I think that bettas make them a certain way maybe. He will pop then if he doesn't like the spot their in. Philip blows bubbles. they go away in about a week or two if he doesn't look after them...its really weird.

When bettas build bubble nests, the bubbles get coated in their saliva which has properties that make the bubbles much more sturdy and stick together.

Bettas build their nests huge when they're in the mood. I've seen a couple of mine get close to two inches high. :)

PhilipPhish, nope, I don't have the training (for lack of a better way of putting it) to breed him or the faculties to keep the wee fry.

Burd, that totally makes sense. Thus far, it's about half an inch in height and about four or five inches wide. He is a trip; he'll work on it, swim around for a bit, and come back to work some more.

Betta's definietly build nests when their in the mood and happy. Akira built a big one but Kai my little nester sometimes builds ones that lift his silk plant leaves out of the water. His last nest was almost two inches thick.

My boy brownie makes me bubble nests and if I remove the cover to they start popping like knocked over dominoes. It looks so weird.. the other boys don't really make me nests not sure why. They do it when they want to. My boy Bloo used to make me such pretty nests until I put him in a split 7gal.. now their very sparatic and not really in a "nest" form. :(
