ew did i say PetCo? crap, i did. i meant PetSmart. the PetCo here are notorious betta-killers. DIS-RE-GARD!!
the PetSmart here has the most handsome bettas i've seen. very well cared for, i must say. their selection is small, but that just means they can be pampered more. i'm in there quite a bit, and i do eyeball their cups.. it's rare that i see a cup with poo or uneaten food in it, and the bettas seem lively and alert. that's where i got my Roxie
I love seeing other people's fishies, especially the rescues and their progress!
ha! you asked for it!
i don't have any firsties shots of King Louie, but he was a ratty little beast. here's his after-poses, though.. i can't quite peg his highlights down.. they're either blue, gree, indigo, or all three.
You're so lucky, that's great your Petsmart takes such good care. My Petsmart, enh. The Petco takes better care but not by much.
I love Louie (oops, mustn't refer to royalty so casually!) King Louie's tail. The rays are so unique, either blue in one pic, white in another. And he looks so intimidating, flaring away like that. He is very handsome, very regal.
His highness is handsome! I love the colours, especially the third picture..
Look a betta in need!! *steals King Louie and runs*
But again, I'm really relieved there are no chain stores like petco/ smart/ whatever here! I'd be swimming in rescued bettas! But sometimes the local places are really bad. A few days ago I went to one place that had a huge tank with green water and I noticed little plastic bags with bettas in them floating in it, with barely any water... I went to take a closer look and I saw the entire bottom was covered (not exaggerating) with dead bodies of fish, I think they were sharks, I also noticed a few floating ones. It was so gross I couldn't get myself to take a betta home! *shudder*

That's just plain unsanitary. I say there should be surprise health inspections for pet and fish stores, just like the surprise health inspections here for restaraunts.

There are... But they just get bribed. There's this place called Crawford market, its an amazing place http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawford_Market you get everything- food, pets, tech stuff, undies everything. They have an entire pet section of 15 shops. Some of the shops are awesome but some like the one I told you about is disgusting! They actually smuggle and sell animals like owls, tortoises, macaws etc.. Its in the paper all the time! If they find out that the Bombay SPCA is having a raid they just throw the animals in a bag and out of their shops.. It is so sad! http://www.mid-day.com/news/2011/jun...ise-mumbai.htm
