What temperature is your tank? room temp
Does your tank have a filter? no
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? no
Is your tank heated? no
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? none

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?Aquamin flakes for bettas
How often do you feed your betta fish? once every other day

Maintenance

How often do you perform a water change? once a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? unkown

Well, if by room temperature you mean 72, you should try and get a heater. Bettas need their water to be warmer than that. Try for the 80 range.

Do you not use dechlorinator for your water? That might help your situation out. Chlorine in our drinking water will really hurt fish.

Also, maybe try doing more water changes. Maybe two 50% changes a week or one 50% and one 100% change. Small tanks like yours need more water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrite in check.

As for black dots, I'm not sure exactly what that could be. I'm sorry. But, the above suggestions should at least help some. Good luck!

The only suggestions I can give you right now are increase water changes and get him a heater as soon as possible. Otherwise, I would need a pic of the black dots to help you diagnose them... Keep us posted :)

i went to take a pic and the spots turned purple so i guess he was color changeing
