Super emergency. Male and Female Betta

Okay so I bought 2 Betta fish yesturday (Male & Female)
I put them in the same tank and they are getting along well.
But I woke up to see the male puffing his gills in a motion thats odd, and the female is alive but hidding in the corner of the tank.
I am a new betta fish owner so please help.

Seperate the fish, put the female in another tank. It is never good to put a female and a male together in the same tank (unless for breeding purposes). The "odd puffing motion" is called flaring, and it's common. Both female and male bettas do this as a sign of aggression (they aren't called Saimese Fighting fish for nothing). As long as you put the female in another tank ASAP she should be okay, just stressed out.
