Water Changes Question

Alright, so I have a few 1gal tanks(trying to get everyone out of them!) and I've been changing their water every day 100%. Everyone else is in 5gals and I was planning on doing 50% once a week and 100% at the end. None are cycled.

I'm asking because I've read different things. Some say full water changes are needed and others say they're to hard on the fish changing their water and enviroment so much so fast.

Anyone have thoughts to offer?

If your 5 gal. tanks are filtered, don't do any 100% water changes. Once a 5 gal. is cycled, you need only do one 50% a week. Till it's cycled you should be doing two 50% changes a week.

If non-filtered, yes, you need to do a 100% a week with a 50% sometime during the week.

Hope that helps! :)

They aren't filtered as of now. I am currently cycling some tanks with fliters and everything and that should be wrapping up, so some fishies will be going in there. And I'll be getting my drawer tanks (yes they are literally plastic drawers) filtered and heated and completely set up after the legit tanks are all ready.
Thanks. :)

I've come to believe that changing the water too much can be hard on the fish. Perhaps starting with a fresh bowl and then monitoring ammonia, etc. with a test kit would give you a better feel for how fast the bad stuff builds up in there.

Everything is really bare right now but I buy a new cloth plant everytime I go to the store, I just also have 3 other tanks besides those to fill also.

Lol thanks. :) They work well for me, but I'm trying to find a cheaper unit that will hold more weight so I can put the ones in the white shelves in "tanks" the size of the big ones (5gals), so I'm hunting convineint stores for small book shelves to adjust. ;p Altogehter it's cost me about $20(just the "tanks"). :)
