Need help diagnosing this fish.

I have a daughter that owns Fred. I have to take care of Fred. Well recently, Fred has gotten a big white cottony looking spot on his head. I tried fungus med's to see if it would help and didn't see much change. Now his Huge spot around his nostril is getting friends going down the top of Fred's head. It is getting worse and I don't know if it is bacterial or fungal. does anyone have an advice on what I can do. He has a water filter, water heater, toys, bubbles on occasion (to agitate the water for the filter when needed). I feed him pellet food by hikkari. I need to treat him ASAP but am not sure what he has. Any help would be appreciated.

Fungus medicines usually do not treat fungus, btw- as true fungus in bettas isnt common. Most medicines, probably what you tried, were treating either a gram-negative or a gram-positive strain of bacteria.

What was the name of the medicine?

Also, please fill out the sticky at the top of the page in the disease section for us. If you could get us better photos of his face, that will help a ton! Try putting the camera into the "macro" or "flower" setting, avoiding flash. Keeping the lights around the tank on will give you enough light :)

For now, I suggest you do a 100% water change on the tank. Empty it fully, rinse it out (no soap) and add new water and conditioner in. Bob the fish in its cup and acclimate it by floating the cup and adding in new water every 5 minutes for at least 10 minutes (to avoid shock).

With more info, we can probably set your fish right :D

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have tried to take a couple more pictures. The bump that is around his nostril is turning blue like the rest of him but it seems like his face is wider also but this is probably due to the bump. Lol I have wanted to just catch him and see if I could scrape it off but I do know better than to do that. He looks like he is a little top heavy due to the bump. He is still eating ok. The medicine that I used previously was Fungus Clear by Jungle. I guess I have a little more to learn about this site. thanks for the help and advice. After I changed out the Water, that is when the bump around his nostril went blue with very little white cotteny look to it.

From the look of it, it could be columnaris, true fungus, an infected slime coat (bacterial) or even Ick (I see two white spots and what looks like infected slime coat)... For now, treat with Aquarium Salt. Add 1tsp/gal twice, 12 hours apart so you get a concentration of 2 tsp/gal. Perform daily 100% water changes and darken his tank. You can quarantine him in a small plastic container like the one he came in if you still have it. You can also premix the salt into a clean gallon jug. That will make daily water changes easier. Keep us posted and please fill this out, it will help us narrow down possibilities.
