Talking Cloudy water and babies

Hello Fish Friends!

I've posted before about tail biting and how I thought my Clarence was biting his tail or could've been being bit by my mollies...well it was neither! I don't know what I did wrong with my tank but it got some algae and parasites =( I lost my male molly to a white film around his body...RIP Fedrik.

So I changed everything in the tank, conditioned the water, cycled it for a day, tested the water (everything was good) and decided to go with glass pebbles instead of gravel...I'm thinking that was a mistake...its been probably about a month since I re-did everything and now my water is cloudy and the glass pebbles look like that have spider webs on them...just under water. I took everybody out of the tank today and while I was in the process of doing that...I found 3 little fry...I'm a grandma!

So could the reason my tank was cloudy was because my molly was prego and had her babies? or is it the glass pebbles? ALSO what do I do with these babies? Fish are a lot of work...I just can't get this tank thing right

Congrats on the babies. :)

How often do you do water changes, and what percent of the water? That could be contributing to the cloudiness if you are disrupting the beneficial bacteria.

Or, it also could be if you didn't rinse the pebbles off well enough...

For the babies, you can try to get them into a "net breeder" or similar if you don't want them to be eaten by the other fish. Then get them a fish food formulated for baby fish, they have it at the pet store.

I do about 10% water change every weekend....and I can't seem to find baby fish food =( Would it be ok to feed them the tropical flakes that I feed everybody else?

it's fine, but it might be too big for them to eat. But honestly, if they are still alive, they are eating somehow... so... they are probably getting whatever food slips by the adults.

A tank doesn't cycle in a day. It can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to cycle a tank.
