Depend on what you can financially handle and how much time you have for proper care :) I have my 2 male Betta, and a tank full of tropical fish. I have spend more than I should have in the last two months on them haha

With all pets come responsibility of money and time and care, it's up to the individual. Although, Betta ARE addictive ;)

But if your asking PER tank... 1 male Betta per tank, never two in the same tank!

If you want another and have the funds to buy a tank and heater and possibly a filter go for it. Once you get past the expensive aquarium stuff fish are pretty inexpensive pets to take care of... unless your like me and start buying a ton of plants lol

xD I've got 4 males! To lower the costs/ manual labor- I split my two 10gallon tanks and the boys have 5 gals. each! ^__^

Yes, dividing tanks is good. a divided 5gal fish tank is good for two males. Or a divided 10gal is good for 3-4 :) We plan to put 4 in our 10gal.

But yes, start up is expensive but once you have it you don't need to buy it again, then it gets cheaper! IF you stay off Aquabid that is....

Avoid flashy colorful fish like male guppies. Male bettas see the bright colors as a threat and will attack and possibly kill them. Congrats on the new betta!

And avoid fish that could be labeled semi aggressive or fin nippers, as you don't want them to hurt your Betta :)
