Aggressive Betta

Hey, well yeh i have an aggressive betta.

So the story, i had 6 neon tetras in a tank. 4 died, leaving 2, they grew strong and were healthy, so i decided to add a male betta, seeings as everywhere says they will get along perfectly. They got on perfectly well for 2-3 weeks, then one morning, i find the betta chasing one neon, with the other injured hiding under a rock.

Betta was removed and put in its own tank. I am unsure why the betta turned aggressive. The 2 neon's grew strong and healthy again. I have now added to the neon tetras and their is now a school of 8/9. I was wondering whether you think it would be ok to pu the betta back in now and will be more reluctant to be aggressive with a whole school instead now?

I wouldn't if I were you. I had a similar problem many years ago. I think the colour of the neons was threatening to the betta and he attacked them.

I agree with Julie. What size was your tank? But this reminded me of my female betta who started a hunt for several tetras when I had her last year in the 75g tank.

its about a 15 gallon tank. The only thing is though, they got along perfectly well for the 2-3 weeks, no aggression at all, nothing and just suddenly overnight, it all changed.
