I'd suggest rearranging his tank decor once a week. It's usually easiest to do when you do a full water change (100%). However since you have a 10G, that might not be an option (at least if you're cycled). Try once a week, and see if that makes any difference.
Also live plants are great, especially floating ones. I have some anubias floating in my boys tank, and he loves to swim over the stem, as if he wants his tail to get caught, or rest on one of the leaves. You'll probably have a heart attack the first time you catch him napping. They can be sneaky while enjoying their naps.
