That is why i joined. i actually dont remember how i found this site but i was a very poor betta keeper before, im alil ashamed. I kept my fred in alil 1 gal with no filter and maybe cleaned him once a week maybe every two. didnt even know they needed heaters. after this site fred is in a 5 gal with a filter and heater and lots of hiding spots and man is he ever lively my boyfriend even said he has never seen a fish that happy, and well after this site my passion like ignited and now fred is one of 8 bettas with the smallest tank size at 2.5, all heaters and and filters. Even got a dragon from pet smart >.< enjoy your little fishy friend :) isnt it fun when they greet you

It looks like Independence is living in a very small bowl, perhaps a half gallon?

Correct me if I'm wrong. However, a in a small container like that ammonia (which fish secrete constantly) will build up quickly. Ammonia is poison to you fish. In a half gallon bowl you should be changing 100% of his water everyday to prevent ammonia poisoning and death. Make sure the new water is the same temperature as the old water to prevent temperature shock, (get a thermometer-for aquariums 2 bucks at walmart) also be sure to use a water conditioner to take the bad chemicals out of the water.

There is some good info here in the betta care section! welcome
