Vacation

Hi,
I'm going on vacation and I don't have anyone who can feed Bluebeard or do his water changes (or at least not anyone who would remember). I've been feeding him extra for the past week or so. I'm planning on doing a water change the day before I leave and then giving him an extra feeding just before I leave. Is there anything else I should do?

How long will you be gone?
A weekend= Buy a dissolving weekend feeder.
A week= Buy a dissolving week feeder
2 weeks= Buy a dissolving 2 wk feeder.
3 weeks+ = Buy automatic feeder.
Hope that helps!

All of this= No.

(Sorry)

If youre gone a weekend, do a waterchange the DAY (not night) before you leave. Feed that morning. Get back, do another water change (if under 3 gallons) and feed. DO NOT feed more than normal.

Bettas can go 20+ days without food. Not comfortably, but it is fine without for over 2 weeks.

1 week, your only issue is water quality. How big is the tank?
Do not feed with a feeder. It will make the water horrible.
Change the night before, and then when you get back.

2 weeks, water quality is a HUGE issue. Adding a feeder is less of a good idea now. If youre gone this long, consider either bringing them with you or asking a local pet shop to hold them and feed them while youre gone.

3 weeks, same as above. If youre gone almost a month, you should have proper long-term care for them.

For a 5 gallon, you're good for water for up to a week.

Change when you leave and change when you get back. If you have live plants, even better. Keep the tank lights off, and the heater on only if its reliable and wont get too hot (and leave off only if it doesnt drop below 73'F)

Feed right before you leave, and youre gonna be fine.

Yup, right as PewPewPew said! Those feeders do not work, are a waste of money, and foul the water faster.
