I use Aspen. Just like we betta owners like when people research a betta before they buy it, I do the same for any other animal. ;)

There was a lot of research done before buying this hamster, believe you me.

Pine and Cedar are very harmful. Aspen is the best, and lucky me, Canada is one of the few countries that sell it. The other types made of recycled paper etc are very expensive and it seems like my little girl likes digging in the wood shavings a lot anyway.

It's been 15 days since the little ones were born. Unfortunately the runt passed, but I knew that was coming. It was only half the size of the other babies and had a huge lump on it's back that was very abnormal. So now I have 6 little ones left. One the same color as the mother, and 5 that are sable. (a darker brown.)

They just opened their eyes the other day and I finally got to clean the cage yesterday (it was almost unbearable LOL).

Here's a pic of one!

They are so cute and tiny! Are they eating solid foods yet?

Aww, s/he's licking you! They're going to be so tame if you handle them all the time, they'll think they're people lol!

They are eating seeds now. And some cucumber from time to time. We've been handling them a lot since they've opened their eyes because we want them to be very tame.

ps. that's my boyfriend holding it haha!

Yeah. I'm trying to find good homes for them. I may be keeping one, my brother wants one for his daughter, and my friend is on the fence about taking one. So I need to find 3 more homes.

I wish I could take one, it would be nice to have one that's used to humans.. The ones in pet stores here bite and are really ferocious. X( Too bad I'm all the way on the other side of the globe lol!

It's actually not that hard to tame them - even the most vicious ones! :)

My girl would bite me and run away when I first got her and within a week of her getting use to me and me giving her treats out of my hand so she knows I won't hurt her she was tamed! Now she climbs out onto my hand and crawls all around me and never bites. :)

I used to have an absolutely vicious little dwarf hamster, and whenever I'd try the "put a treat in your hand" method, she would sniff the side of my hand and bite it. Two of my syrians were completely lovable, and one you can pet but she doesn't like to be picked up. I miss my nice syrians :(

And that is why, I like mice! They never ever ever bite, ever!
