stripes?

Yesterday, I got a female veiltail female betta from the petstore and i noticed she had stripes. She had stripes while she was in her tank at the petstore. I thought it was just coloring so i got her. She was in a tank with other betta fish and guppies. So, i thought it was a cool betta so i got her along with a fancy guppy. But on the car ride back, i noticed she didn't have the stripes any more and i just thought it was a glare. But when we put her and the guppy in their new tank when she got in the water she didn't have the stripes anymore. When i went down to get the frozen brine shrimp and then came back with it, she had the stripes again. She has had them ever since. What's going on!

My female betta does that, she has stripes, whn she gets mad and flares up or if I mess with her tank they go away, they get darker and more noticable when shes scared/nervous

Horizontal stripes on the body usually indicate stress, vertical stripes usually indicate that they want to breed. sometimes when adding a new female to a sorority they'll get a little confused and have vertical stripes.

It's nothing to worry about, most female bettas usually display them at one time or another. Chocolate colorings seem to have permanent stripes but they aren't as visible until they're stressed.

In the fish world-color changes and stripes are a form of communication and camouflage....not all horizontal stripe mean the fish is stressed per se......but it could be....lol.....
