Gloves

i'm thinking about using gloves when i clean my betta's tank, they're just the regular latex disposable gloves. are these okay to use? can they be harmful to the fish?

May I ask why you want to use gloves?

i heard somewhere that your hands can contaminate the water, i wasn't sure about this and just wanted to be safe. is this true?

Yes they can, especially the bacteria under your nails. But I usually wash my hands in hot water and scrub under my nails before I get into the tanks :) I hate the feeling of gloves personally lol And they always fill up with water on me!

I am unsure if they are ok or not, as I've never used them. But someone will come along and say so. I think my other forum uses them sometimes but I can't be sure.

This.

When I worked at an LFS we wore special gloves that are made for tank cleaning and won't harm the fish. I don't think they're very expensive and they would be a much safer bet than latex gloves.

agreed. but as long as your hands are clean, i dont think there would be a problem. Wash your hands before cleaning the tank, and rinse them well so the soap is gone.

alright, got it. i might invest in those gloves that are specifically made for cleaning, but for now, i'll just use my bare hands. thanks, everyone. c:
