Tank stocking yet again!

Here we go again, earlier I posted this same question but about a 10-gallon tank. Then I lucked out and one of my co-workers gave me his old 20-gallon. So here we go again. I still have the 10-year-old plecostimus, flatulent 6-year-old loach, a foul-tempered 7-year-old Giant Danio, and two ancient purple passion something-or-others that I think have dementia. The eel went to the big pond in the sky, so he's not going to be a problem.

So now the arrangement is the Danio and two elderly what's-its will stay in the 10-gallon and the plecostimus and loach will cycle and stay in the 20-gallon. I already have my bamboo, lillies, and apogenium (boy am I spelling that wrong) bulbs started with fertilizer in the 10-gallon. Now, how many female bettas can live in a 20-gallon (yes, with lots of plants and hidy-holes) and what sort of tank-mates can they tolerate if any? That's a real issue because my two males each have a snail and a dwarf African frog living with them in their 1-gallon tanks without problems, but I once had Renoir in with some danios and he ate any that he could catch.

About 10-12 females could be in there. Peaceful fish such as cory cats would be good. But keep in mind, the more tankmates, the less bettas you can have. This site is a wonderful help-

And just as an aside, a 1 gallon is way too small for any tank mates. A 5 gallon is the minimum to have a snail or a frog. Please consider upgrading them or moving the snails and frogs. That is not a good situation for any of those animals.

It IS accurate in fish compatibility but is NOT accurate in stocking. Sorry.
How much experience with bettas do you have? How many do you have and what are their tank conditions currently (i.e tank size, heater {yes or no}, filter, how long you've had them)? Sororities should NOT be started by betta beginners.

15 min for small puffers (recommended 20gal)
20 min for larger puffers (recommended 30gal)

I used to have both size puffers so that's what I'd personally recommend.

thank you Remiska, i always was fascinated with them. they look so cute when relaxed/uninflated. theres one in a LPS thats yellow with white stripes, it looks comical.

Kathstew: I've had bettas for a while, I've had two in the past (they both died after more than two years); I've had Renoir (my big blue fellow) for two and a half almost three years now (I bought him as an adult), Vangogh I've had for a month (he was a birthday present). Their tanks both have mini low-flow backpack filters, mini heaters that maintain a constant 78 degrees, and lots of plants to hide in. I was incorrect about the tank size, the tanks are one-and-a-half gallon (don't know if it matters).
