Betta Feeding in community tank

Should I get some smaller betta food pellets, or allow my betta to continue to eat the tetras' flakes?

I cycled my tank with some redfin tetras. Ammonia and nitrites zeroed. I got my betta. I call him "Steve". He's kind of a spade-veil tail, blue/green/purple depending on how the light hits him. Very cool.

Anyway, I have the "mini-pellets" from tetrabetta. I toss in a couple, and he can't seem to eat them because it looks like they're too big. Sometimes I'll smash them a bit to make the smaller, but he'll usually just ignore them if smashed.

In the meantime, the tetras like to play "football" with the betta pellets.

When I toss in some flakes for the tetras, Steve seems to enjoy chopping down on the flakes.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Tropical flakes work just fine for bettas, so long as you add supplements. They're a little low on the protein scale, which is why bloodworms, brine shrimp, or some other type protein should be given once or twice a week. Your tetras will also appreciate the bonus.
