I used to have a split 5 gallon tank setup for my male and female betta. They could see each other through the barrier and it gave them something to do.
However, I recently stumbled upon a brand new Fluval Edge 6 gallon for $30 so I'm going to set up my male in that.
The problem is, she seemed to really like living next to another fish and I'd like to try either a sorority or community tank for her. She is very non-aggressive, just likes to swim up to the barrier and look at him. I have never seen her flare. I would build an entirely new tank setup so she wouldn't have a territory despite having her for a while.
What would you suggest? Seems sororities need at least 4 or 5 females for a pecking order. What sort of gallons would I need for that? I know the rule is a gallon per inch of fish, but with aggression? Would a 10 gallon work for 4 females?
Or should I try other freshwater fish?
