Question male or female?

Just for future reference is there a way to tell if your betta is male or female? i just thought that since in the animal kingdom males are usually prettier than females that the male bettas would be more colorful, right?

^ not necessarily actually, females can be just as pretty, though in most cases the male is more... obvious...

Female- there is a "tail" type where the male has the SAME short fins:

Female- Tihs Vieltale - multi- colored

Female- Wildfire Vieltale - orange

Male:

Butterfly male- Flagg (Viel tail type)

Multi-colored male- Pickle (Spade tail type)

But there are also different fin types:

Like crowntail:

Hurricane - green and red

There are also, Halfmoons, Deltas, Plakats, and Super Deltas, but I have no pictures of them...

For the most part males have long fins and females have short ones. Just at a glance that is the easiest way to tell them apart, but there are more detailed ways that others can describe... My brain is too muddled at the moment. heh

Female bettas from show lines can be just as colorful and bright as the males...if not more so in some instances. The wild female betta is quite dull in color. The body shape of the female is so much different than a male, but I guess these differences can be subtle to a casual observer.

I forgot!

great way to tell the difference

1) Males NORMALLY have longer fins (but not always)
2) Female NORMALLY have an 'egg dot'a small white dot on their belly, but young males may also have this
3) Males usully have 'rocket' shappe bodies while fmales normally are... squater
