Exclamation Betta scared of hammock!? (Pic heavy)

My new betta that is currently nameless is in a 3g tank. I just got him about a week ago today and I just put his new hammock in (I made it myself) he swam on top of it and freaked! Maybe it's too high? Or will he get used to it?

Here are a few pictures of him and his Tank:

He probably just saw something and spazzed. My guy completely ignored the hammock I bought for him, and then it began to rust, so I removed it. :(

I think it just depends on the Betta. Blue loves his hammock. I have it pretty high... there's barely 1 cm between him and the top of the water when he's laying there.... but that's how he likes it.

I made mine out of some of those silk plants that you can get from walmart for like two dollars and a suction cup. No metal or adhesives.

Yea, I would make another one, but he didn't seem to like it.
