Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? I have a Crowntail betta and his eyes are a very very dark colour -- so dark that you can't really see the pupil (?). They are pretty much just a big black dot. A few days ago, his eye colour changed so you could make out the details of his eyes. They were a blue-blackish colour; now they've changed back to the usual black dot.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? He is swimming around still, but sometimes lays on the bottom of the tank. This could be due to the water temperature, but my heater gets wonky sometimes. I've been monitoring the water temperature a lot. He likes to rest on the bottom in a rock cave, hang out in a plastic plant, and "lay" down on and lean on other ornaments.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? A few days again.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No idea how. Like I said before, I put in the allocated dose of anti-fungal treatment because I'm paranoid about fin rot/fungus. I had a fish given to me (by someone who DID NOT take care of it) die from a bad fungal infection. Also my aquarium-enthusiast boyfriend has had problems with IP and I've seen how fragile fish can be sometimes.... sooo I like to do preemptive treatment. (He told me to keep the temperature low since the medication can take oxygen out of the water if the temperature is high. I aim to keep my tank at about 80 F).
Does your fish have any history of being ill? No. My Remus is a hardy little Crowntail. I've hallucinated fin rot (due to paranoia?) but I am very certain that his lethargy is due to water temperature and my wacky heater.
How old is your fish (approximately)? 4 months
Basically, I am just wondering about his eye colour changing. Like I said before, he has the type of eyes that are a gigantic black dot, except a few days ago the colour lightened (?) and I could make out the details of his eyes. Normally, it looks all BAMF and like it's just a big dot. He's very adorable & I would really hate to be hurting him somehow or that he's sick.
(TL;DR story: I had a lot of problems keeping gerbils over this past summer because the pet store that I got them from had inbreeding so they had all sorts of genetic diseases -- like one was paralyzed, one was too young to be sold, etc -- and now I am very scared of my pets dying/me causing a death. So all of this might be just me freaking out).
Thanks for any help!! :)
PS if it's helpful, I can post pictures. I am having trouble finding my USB cord at the moment... I have pictures of his normal eyes/strangely-changed eyes.
