That is correct...Natural planted tank...soil based...either dirt from your yard, potting soil, top soil, kitty litter with either sand or small diameter gravel on top or cap the dirt layer to help keep it in place with mass plants.......jungle or disorganized look to it.......lots and lots of stem and floating plants....these system are not without problems....but when correctly setup and once mature....low care...limited water changes...near as complete ecosystem that can be created in a closed system....everything needs each other...one things waste is anothers food...etc......never leaving the tank per se.....everything is recycled......but it is a closed system so some intervention is needed....but not much.....
