Small bowl

Which live better in a small unheated bowl/vase?
Female or male bettas?
I would like to buy a replacement fish for my friend, but she has a 1/2 gallon vase, Would males or females live better? 8)

Both would do equally as badly. Bettas really need a minimum of 5g tank and definitely need both a filter and a heater. They are tropical fish and without a heater, unless your room temperature is in the high 70s which is unlikely as this would be quite uncomfortable, they will become very lethargic and live very short lives. Sorry not to give you the answer you wanted to hear.
