Smile I Got a Solution!

You know how when you try to explain to your parents about the proper set up of a betta tank, and about the proper water changes involving ammonia. And your parents dont believe a thing your saying? And they side with a petco employee who is unaware of the care of a betta. Well, I got a solution. Today, when I went to my LPS, i found a book about the proper care of a betta. My first thought was oh brother, this book is gonna talk about small bowls and vases. But when i started reading.. I noticed, everything was accurate. It talked about ammonia levels, a proper tank set up for a betta, and even the proper foods for a betta. It's called Animal Planet: Aquarium Care for Bettas. If our parents don't believe you, and them this book! I did this, and my parets are very surprised, haha. xD it's sort of on the expensive side.... $12... but, i mean, its a good book and it can convince your parents that water changes are necessary. And our 2.5-5 gallon tanks are beneficial for our betta :D

Aren't these the same books that are actually sold at petco/petsmart where employees work? I'd love to pull out one of them the next time they talk about how bettas are fine in unheated environments!

For any kids trying to convince their parents, I would hold the book up and say "The person who wrote this book has written many acclaimed books on fish care, and probably has a college degree. The person at the pet store is making minimum wage and is trying to make their store a profit based on a corporate handout they were given with information that this book says is wrong. Who do you think we should trust?"

at one LPS near me the owner requires new staff not well versed in aquariums to read books like that so they know what they are doing even though they are just a cashier

And that is why LPSs have a better chance of actually providing quality over quantity.
