Think i need to cure fin rot.

I finally got my betta today but im pretty sure he has fin rot... The shop assistant says nothings wrong but we wont get into that.
So iv got some AQ Salt aswell..
His top fin is curled over and his tails have black around the edges (Il try get a pic soon)
His fins in general dont seem broken or ragged and hes swimming around fine..
At the moment hes bobbing in his bag.. adjusting to his new home..
Is it possible for someone to talk me through what to do with the salt?
I have a baby biorb.. 4 Gallons
The temp is.. 83ish

P.s Is it ok to put salt in now? If i have only just put him in his new tank?

Thanks

x

Be sure and acclimate him to the chemistry of the new tank by adding small amounts of the tank water to the holding bag....don't add any of the pet shop water to your tank....pour some of that water drown the drain and add tank water until most of the water in the bag is tank water...net and add to the tank....

Until you get us a pic...just do a fresh/dechlorinated water treatment...daily 50% water changes for now...often that is all it will take to heal up fin rot and the black edges may be his normal pigment or even new growth unless it is all crusty....not curly...this can be normal sometimes......

Nutrition is really important...a good quality varied diet fed in small frequent meals......

Can you see what i mean ok?
You cant really see the black around the edges to well but you can see a little bit.. The last picture also shows the curl in his top fin..
Also.. does the area around his gills look ok?

Thanks x

If anything, it's a very mild case. Clean water should do the trick, but you might want to lower the temp just a tad bit to around 80 if you can.

As for his gills, it could be from ammonia burns, which clean water will help clear up too. He might just have a big beard, as I have one that, when fully retracted, still comes quite a bit out of his gill plates around the edges, but mostly at the bottom.

I think clean water and some good food will have your guy healthy in no time.

Is it normal or ok that one of his ventral fins (did i say that right? the two fins under his chin) Is nothing but a black line? Where as the other is nice and big. Hes had it since i bought him but only just remembered to say.. Also is it likely that the black around his fin edges is part of his colouring? People have told me hes pineapple and some other pineapple betta pictures iv seen have black around too??
Thanks
