Koi...being bullies?

my friends goldfish of +10 years died a few days ago. he wasnt the model goldfish owner in fact he was looking forward to this event for a long time o.O. they kept the comet goldfish in a 10gal and WC every 7-8 months or whenever the tank got too slimy. he had some neon tetras in the tank but they dissapeared into the filter or into the goldfish. there was growth stunting as he??? was only 4-6 6 inches long, is it common for goldfish to last over 10 years?

I've always heard goldfish live 20-30 or so years. But to be honest, it's not 'common' for them to live longer than a month since they are sold as bowl fish!

yikes, you can go through a minimum of 3 goldfish (under optimal conditions) within your entire life if they do last that long. its a shame that most get oxygen starvation as a final result among other things.

Actually, there is this one Goldfish who is almost in his fifties and still going strong. I believe there have been some others too.

But muss is right, 20-30 years is most common with good care.

try telling that to most LPS employees and see if they beleive it. thats damn suprising to hear they alst that long. thank you very much Miah and Purple.

mine were 11yrs old .. when we moved .. and my dad decided he didn't want our new house to have that 80g tank .. and he gave them all away to our evil witch neighbor 2 days before moving without asking or talking to me about it .. while i was at school .. i was so pissed .. x_x .. they would be 15 now ..
