If its possible, could you get a picture?

Peas are generally not great for bettas as they are insectivores and dont have the capabilities to eat them, it tends to just add more blockage. Peas are more for goldfish, which are herbivores.

Some members have had luck with peas before but its hit and miss.

Bettas can live a few weeks without eating.

Raoul died last night. I really thought he would make it, because he put up such a good fight and seemed to rally toward the end. But this morning he was dead and covered in white fuzz like he'd been coughing up for days. Thank you in particular to Pataflafa for trying to help. It's frustrating that there are no vets that specialize in bettas, or I would have taken him immediately. The pet store employees don't know anything, so you're left with reaching out to strangers online. I should have treated for columnaris just incase, but I just didn't know. It kills so quickly, he would have been lucky to make it till the antibiotics arrived in the mail.

I'm very sorry he passed, but at least you gave him a good home instead of all of this happening in the pet store cups.

He knew someone who was rooting for him and gave him a clean, warm home. sometimes the illness is just too much, but you gave him a chance.

Thank you for your condolences. Pataflafa, in hindsight the "salt-like specs" were not cysts but the bacteria trying to form on his body. Sometimes it was stringy. That is what gives the disease its name. But a little salt took care of it on the outside. It still got inside him, because I didn't treat it properly. For future reference, this to anyone who might be interested, keep the water clean, salty and at 74 degrees with meds.
