Rinse everything a few times in hot water and let it sit dry for a few days. That should take care of any diseases or parasites, and the rinsing should take care of any soaps.

You can qt the live plants in some clean, treated water and add some epsom salt for nutrients.

I'm sorry for your loss :( I was hoping he would make it, such a handsome boy...

Nitrate/ite poisoning usually is hard to reverse once it's set in. The only thing you could do would be to do immediate water changes. But even then, it's not always a sure thing. I was just hoping that he would be one of the lucky ones. Some are more sensitive to such quantities of ammonia/nitrate/ites, and some surprisingly can survive in such high numbers for a while.

As mentioned above, just use very hot water (as hot as you can stand it) to clean everything. I would up the water changes once you get a new guy and monitor the numbers each week and adjust your water changing accordingly. Did you fully cycle your tank prior to putting him in? Your tank could of been trying to cycle itself, causing spikes in the readings like that.

Thanks, I'm so sad to see him pass, he was so pretty. I know for sure the tank was cycled but I've had mini-cycles happen before from disturbing the substrate or missing uneaten food.

I broke down the tank, rinsed it out really good with hot water, then set it out to dry. I'll get it up and running in a few days and let it cycle again.

Thanks again for all your help and kind works, I appreciate it.
