Sick fish named Mystery

Mystery is not acting his normal self...

For the majority of the day he has been laying on his side either on his rock or on the bottom of his bowl underneath the rock.

Every so often he will jolt up to the top of the bowl as if he is trying to catch a breath or something and then swims back down to lay on his side again.

I have cleaned his bowl 100%

His swimming looks normal. Quick, straight, and upright.

I didnt keep a close watch on his feeding this morning but i do remember him taking a few stabs at his flakes before I left so I am pretty sure he is eating.

He does not look bloated.

His color, to the best of my knowledge, seems normal.

Please help, I am worried about my little guy!

What is the tank temperature and how often do you usually change the water (how much and tank size as well)?

Bettas can get very lethargic if they're cold, some of which prefer higher temperatures than others. 78-80 is generally the preferred range.

Have to agree, it sounds as if he is cold or the chemistry is unfavorable.
He's dashing up to get air, as they breathe the air we do.. so if he's able to do that just fine, then I would have to say it's probably something that can be easily fixed.

Purchased a heater and a thermometer. His water is ranging from 78 to 81ish through out the day and he still is hiding under his rock all day..

He is still eating
