Advice for a newbie for tank upgrade

So I've had my male betta fish Phil for about two months living in one of those .5 gal cubes, and I feel terribly guilty everytime I look at him. I do water changes twice a week and he's been making bubble nests so I think he's content. However, I think it's time for an upgrade. I found this kit and I was wondering if anybody has any opinion or suggestions?? Thanks!

That tank looks good, I'm sure Phil will be very happy in there.

That would probably be your cheapest route for a tank that size. A heater alone can run $12+, double that and then some for a 50 watt alone. Just make sure the filter isn't too strong for him once you set it up. Baffle it with an aquarium sponge in outflow or a bottle if the current is too much. Otherwise, he will love it! Heck, you can divide it a couple of times and have 3 bettas in it happily :)

I have one of those. Great kit - good that it comes with pretty much everything you need (except decorations!) I'm sure Phil will love it! As PitLuvs said, you can also divide it and get another betta too. :) Just be sure to have lots of plants and hidey places! Good luck. Post pics if you can!

yea, I too think that tank will be great. I recently bought the marineland 10 gal. Kit and I love that it came with everything I needed. I ended up dividing it cuz my girl got stressed with all the space. Its cool though cuz I got to save another betta. The great thing about the DIY dividers is that it cost like 3 bucks!

Great! I did end up purchasing the tetra version of this tank, and it came with a whisper 10i filter. I'm not quite sure if the current is too strong yet, but how would you baffle it with a bottle?
