new girls... and boy?

with all my looking around i think i've decided on breeding giants when i start breeding. So i went back to the store where i got the giant from my "help identify" thread. Think i'm sure it's a male PK, and they don't realize they have both males and females in there together... so i bought 2 more... one that may be a male and one i'm sure is female (they are from a tank labeled as all female). I also got another VT female from a lps so my betta tank would have more than a couple bettas...


The VT girl... she's pretty big for a Petsmart girl.


And the 2 giants... female on the right, possible male on the left. If i see anything that looks like mating behavior from the one that i think is male i'll remove him.


These giants stress stripe really easy. should be gone tomorrow

One on the left most likely a male- look for egg spots and a beard. You won't see mating behavior first.. you'll see fighting and damage and possible stress to death first.

I have that same kind if giant but mines a female.

The one on the left is definitely male. I would remove him ASAP. He looks a little bloated/constipated/chubby which may be why you mistake him for a female

I think I see a beard on the guy to the left, it would be best to remove him now before anything serious happens

for the most part they've been pretty calm to each other. Bear in mind the giants came from a 10 gallon with like 8 other bettas that were either all female siblings or mixed siblings about the same size and none of them were chewed up. The one on the right has a pretty clear egg spot.

Egg spots are nt a 100% tell for sex, I have a few males with egg spots

But the guy on the left is DEF. a boy, and to be safe, he should be house solo

Yes, mabe it worked well at a petstore... but then again, I know may of us who have bettas who were kept in horrible conditions.. the tiny cups and dirtywater "worked well" at the store, but as owners... we should strive for more than "worked well"

This boy is STILL at the store he is from, he has been in these conditions for months and survived.... but again "working well/surviving" and "doing well/thriving" are two different things

Yeah i think it's a he at this point, and i've put him in the 10 gallon. probably means my other one (not in this pic) is also a male. So the question becomes, when i breed, do i breed the giant siblings or female giant to male CT?

And i got the other one to hold still...
