How to test what plastic is safe

Many of us have used sterilite tubs--either as breeding tanks or hospital tanks. Other people have even put legos in the tanks as decorations.

There are clearly some very safe plastics out there, and also there are some less safe ones.

Is there a way to test for safeness?

I am not sure of a way to test per se.....But on the bottom of most plastic container are recycle numbers that you can look up (mine are all #2) I want to say #3 & 7 are not safe-but I am not 100% sure on that-been awhile since I looked that up...lol........

Usually any plastic container that is rated human food/water grade will be safe to use for fish.

This should help. Some food containers may be rated with a 7 or 1 but are still used to house food because they aren't meant to be re-used, heated, etc. Generally speaking any of your plastics used for long term storage should be safe.
